WASHINGTON -- Idaho was among six Rocky Mountain states to make the
list of the nation's top 10 fastest growing states in the year ending
July 1.
The state's population grew 2.4 percent, the fourth-fastest as it slipped
behind Utah's 2.6 percent growth, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Idaho's low unemployment rate that for 28 straight months has been under
4 percent helped lure people looking for economic opportunity in the
mountains of the north and the deserts of the Snake River plain.
Nevada regained its stature as America's fastest-growing state, with
2.9 percent population growth pushing it ahead of Arizona.
Other Western states included in the list of the top-10 fastest-growing
were Colorado, which came in at No. 8, and Wyoming, which was No. 9.
Georgia was the fifth-fastest-growing state, while South Carolina rounded
out the first 10. |
